I am a South Asian-American Sikh feminist, who works in digital marketing and volunteers for the South Asian Women’s Creative Collective. Wellness has become a significant part of my lifestyle, since it keeps me in tune with my own self. Every day I make it a point to move and reflect. Doing one or the other simply is not enough. Movement involves urban hiking, hitting the gym, Pilates, and yoga. Reflection involves recitation and listening to Sikh prayers and kirtans, simple meditations to beat stress and focus, and most importantly journaling and writing.
Incorporating wellness practices in my lifestyle has made me a better person. I understand myself better when I move and reflect. In turn, it makes me better at my job, in my family, and as a friend. No human is an island, and these practices help me participate and serve my communities.
